“I Thought I Was Too Old for This”: One Golfer’s Take on Pre-Round Warmups with Cart Gym

After 45 years on the course, one golfer changes his routine

Tom W., 65, has played golf for over four decades. He has a 17 handicap, plays twice a week, and considers himself “old school.”

“I’ve never been a warm-up guy,” Tom says. “I just hit a few putts, swing a couple wedges, and go.”

That routine didn’t change for years, until he came across Cart GymTM.

The First Reaction: Skeptical at Best

“I saw a guy at our course hooking up bands to his cart and going through this full routine. Of course, I laughed and I thought, here we go, another gadget.”

Tom borrowed his friend’s Cart GymTM set-up and ran through a basic warm-up series on the driving range.

“I felt awkward and a little self-conscious. But when I stepped up to the first tee, I felt loose. I actually turned through the ball!”

Tom didn’t shoot a career low, but he felt better over the ball, less restricted and less hesitant.

Why He Kept Using It

“I discovered that this technique is not about adding yards. It’s about starting the round already in gear,” Tom says.

Now, Tom uses Cart GymTM before every round. He stretches right next to the cart, just for a warm-up. This isn’t something he does at home, nor in the gym. It just takes five minutes before the first tee.

“I’m not chasing swing changes anymore at my age, but I can feel more ready to play. That’s the big win for me.”

The Takeaway from a Lifelong Golfer

Tom doesn’t pitch products, and he doesn’t write training plans. He’s just a lifelong golfer who loves the game.

“If you told me 10 years ago that I’d be stretching with resistance bands next to my cart, I would’ve said you’re nuts.”

Now?

“It works. I feel better and I play better, and I’m usually the first one ready to tee off.”

    I really connected with this post. As someone who’s felt stiff and wondered if I’m ‘too old’ to keep improving, it was reassuring (and a little kick in the pants) to see how a proper warm-up can make all the difference. This was written just for golfers like me.
